Community Relations
Johnson Controls and its local communities:
partners in creating a better tomorrow
Johnson Controls’ community relations department evaluates the needs of local communities to determine how the company’s resources may be best utilized to make a difference. Given that Johnson Controls has a local presence in more than 1,300 communities in 125 countries, our community relations efforts are broad, yet focused. In the United States alone, we support hundreds of charitable and outreach organizations each year through our Foundation, sponsorships and volunteer efforts including:
Financial Support
Through our Foundation, Johnson Controls gives more than $6 million annually in the form of grants and contributions, and nearly $1 million more in sponsorships to help community groups and non-profit organizations provide much-needed services and support.
Human Resources
Our employees are generous with their time and energy, putting their skills and expertise to use through our Community Involvement Program (CIP) and Blue Sky Involve. In addition to helping develop future scientists, engineers and industry leaders, they’re pitching in to help build more sustainable communities.
Technical Assistance
Johnson Controls is the global leader that creates smart environments – producing effective, practical technologies for a better life. In many instances, we use these innovations and our expertise to help non-profits and community organizations save operational resources through energy efficiency, while also supporting their efforts to acquire other grants to help improve their community infrastructures.
What Makes Community Relations Activities So Important to Johnson Controls?
At Johnson Controls, we measure success by our performance in three areas related to sustainability including, environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity. This broad definition of “sustainability” transcends our corporation and requires us to look at the impact and contributions we’re making to the world at-large. But meaningful community relations practices also make good business sense. Community engagement allows us to attract and retain world-class employees; through diversity outreach it strengthens our competitive advantage; and thanks to our real-life connections to the end-user experience, it sharpens our market insights.
